Events & metrics

Almost everything in Sesharo is one of two things: an event or a metric. Understanding the difference makes the rest of the app click into place.

An event is something that happened at a point (or over a span) of time — a meal, a workout, a headache, a mood check-in, arriving at a place. Events are what you mostly log, though some are captured for you.

  • Every event has a category (its type — “coffee”, “woke up”, “workout”, …). The set of categories is defined centrally and comes from the server, so the apps always show a consistent, up-to-date list.
  • Events can carry structured details (for example a “wake type” on a “woke up” event). Some detail fields are built in; you can also define your own.
  • You can create your own custom event types with their own icon, color, and group.

Because events are timestamped, they anchor your timeline and act as the “causes” Sesharo looks at when explaining changes in your metrics.

A metric is a measured number over time — hours of sleep, resting heart rate, glucose, steps, minutes driving. Metrics mostly come from your connected devices and services, though some are derived by Sesharo from your other data.

  • Metrics are summarized per day, and you choose which ones appear in your daily “today so far” card.
  • Sesharo learns a normal range for each metric from your own recent history, so “high” and “low” mean high or low for you, not against a generic population.

Events and metrics share one timeline. That’s the whole point: with your meals, moods, and movements sitting alongside your sleep, heart rate, and glucose, Sesharo can look for relationships between them — which is what powers insights.
